One reason I love writing reviews is that it means I actually study the books I write about, thinking more than I would otherwise about various aspects of how they're put together, including layout, cover, sequencing, text, font, design, paper stock, etc., and, of course, the photographs themselves. As an English teacher, I know that great literature can be read again and again without getting stale; it also demands something from the reader (in a good way). So it was a pleasure to review Robert Frank's Pangnirtung for photo-eye magazine because each time I perused it, I saw something new; things that didn't quite make sense the first time through started to acquire more and more meaning. I also found that my writing naturally bent to fit the style of the book (or so I'd like to think). I hope you'll take the time to read my review!
