Owl

An hour ago when I was walking my dog, I saw an owl perched in a tree just to the left of the path. I stopped; we watched each other for a while, then he flew over me and perched in a tree to the right of the path. Once again we stopped and looked at each other for a while. It was, I'm sure, a Barred Owl; its eyes were distinctive and large and dark. I've seen owls before but never had an encounter like this one. It was quite wonderful.

Here's what my book on animal totems has to say on the subject: Owl medicine is symbolically associated with clairvoyance, astral projection, and magic. Owl people can see that which others cannot; where others are deceived, Owl sees and knows what is there. Owl medicine people may be a little frightening to be around, since so many people have ulterior motives which Owl people see right through. Owl medicine people know more about an individual's inner life than that person knows about herself or himself. Owl also brings messages in the night through dreams or meditation, signals or omens.
